This is photographer Donna Gottschalk, photo by Diana Davies.
On the morning after watching the film Desert Hearts (The film opened in 1985) at our newly re-imagined queer bar, along with a pretty big queer audience, a queer audience that stayed until after 10pm to be in conversation with Patricia Charbonneau (Cay Rivers in the film), I’m thinking about my history.
I’m thinking about our history.
I’m thinking about this photo, always on my computer screen.
Read about Donna Gottschalk in this 2018 NYT article. The article isn’t great, but the photos in the article sure are.

I’ll write more about Patricia Charbonneau. Last night she was generous, charming, and very present.
And, by the way, no-one asked her what it was like to be a straight actor having what’s become pretty famous - very lesbian - sex with another straight actor. I guess we didn’t need to.
